The Malabar Coast

India's Kerala State

After a crazy and hectic two weeks preparation, we somehow arrived safely near India's southern tip at Travandrum - now known simply as Thiruvananthapuram! Sleep deprived and nervous we took a prepaid taxi through pouring rain past sights neither of us had seen before.

Cargo trucks, ubiquitous around India

Arriving at Kovalum we didn't have to worry about our lack of reservations-all the hotels looked available and with only a brief several hour break about dinner time, we slept through the entire day and night.

The next day was sunnier and we walked a few kilometers through an impoverished fishing village and though received a few stern stares, found most people quite open and friendly and eager to talk to us.

The next day we relocated in Trivandrum, where the next few images are from.

The following day we took a full day tour south to the extreme southern tip of India, in Tamal Nagel State, at the junction of the Indian Ocean, the Arabian Sea and the Sea of Bengal. We travelled along the The Cardamom Hills, to an ancient palace, an older temple and eventually returned late at night. The rest of these images are from this day trip.
