The Only Way Off Too!

After exploring Seattle's environs for years now, we're delighted to be moving to rural Vashon Island, located in the Puget Sound between Seattle and Tacoma. Vashon is unincorporated, 37 miles2 in size, and has ~200 businesses (including 32 art studios!), a population of just over 10,000 people, and excellent growth management controls to maintain the 80% open space and forested nature of the island. We also are against genetically altered food. We get 45 inches of rain annually. The atmosphere is quite alternative, progressive and cosmopolitan though some backyard junkyards let you know there's still a few rednecks about! Indigenous folks as of the late 1800's included the Squaxin, Suquamish, Muckleshoot, Lower Chehalis and Skokomish tribes.

Check out our new map page to see where Vashon is located - or for directions if you're interested in stopping by. But please be very careful if you swim here so as not to get caught by the 8-armed, 1600 suckered Giant Pacific Octopus living just off-shore. They can weigh 600 pounds and span 33 feet!

We've also compiled some Vashon specific links for our use that help illustrate the island's cultural diversity.
